Grand Cross of the Order of Merit
Conferred upon Sir Robert Baden-Powell in 1931


Baden-Powell received the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Austrian Republic at the time of the Sixth World Scout Conference in 1931 at Baden near Vienna.  Photos of the Ribbon, Medal and Cross are courtesy of Herbert Balka, Chief of the Austrian Scouting Museum.


In 1931, on the occasion of the Sixth World Scout Conference, Baden-Powell was honored by the government of Austria for his service to youth.  He was presented with Austria’s highest recognition for public service, the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit.  A unique collection of photos of the ceremonies, and of the Ribbon, Medal and Cross are presented courtesy of Herbert Balka, Chief of the Austrian Scouting Museum.
