The Jamboree Book,
1920 1st World Jamboree, Olympia, England
THE JAMBOREE BOOK, 1920 was published by the Boy Scout Association to commemorate the successful completion of the 1st World Jamboree at Olympia, London in the summer of 1920. Held under the direction of the Council of the Boy Scouts Association and the personal leadership of the Chief Scout, Sir Robert Baden-Powell, the Jamboree marked an important landmark in the history of Scouting. The Jamboree hosted approximately 8,000 Scouts from 34 countries. The Jamboree Book, 1920 is one of a series of souvenir books published by the Boy Scout Association commemorating the 1st and 3rd World Jamborees (held in England in 1920 and 1929) and the Imperial Jamboree held in 1924. The Boy Scouts of America published similar books after the 3rd, 4th and 5th Jamborees (1929, 1933 and 1937). They provide an important record and a unique insight into the early days of World Scouting. None of these books are readily available today. For some time I have tracked them through libraries and through rare and used book dealers. Finally, I was able to secure copies of The Jamboree Book, 1920, The Imperial Jamboree, 1924 and The World Jamboree, 1929 all published by the Boy Scout Association (UK Scout Association), and a copy of The 1933 Scout Jamboree Book published by the Boy Scouts of America, through the courtesy of a Canadian Scouting friend, Dennis "Skip" Trimble, Scoutmaster of the 333rd Toronto Boy Scout Troop. My thanks to "Skip" for helping to bring this historic and important information to today’s Scouts and Scouters. Contents.
